90% Agreement on Key Points of the Renewable Energy Act 2016 Reform

Cabinet members and state premiers have reportedly agreed on key points of the Renewable Energy Act 2016 reform (EEG 2016). According to Chancellor Angela Merkel, final agreement has not been reached yet, but outlines and orientation points are clearly recognisable. Energy minister Gabriel said that agreement was reached on 90% of the issues.

More Than 90% Renewable Energy in Germany on 8 May 2016 12:45, Negative Prices Down to -178 EUR/MWh

Last Sunday at 12:45 it was sunny and windy, and the end of a long holiday weekend. It looks like this resulted in more than 90% renewable energy, a whopping 13.6 GW of power exports, and EPEX spot intraday continuous power prices down to -178.01 EUR/MWh, with a weighted average of -144.78 EUR/MWh during that time.

EU General Court: Germany’s 2012 Renewable Energy Source Act Involves State Aid

The EU’s General Court today sided with the Commission’s view that the EEG 2012 involved state aid. It rejected Germany’s arguments to the contrary, seeking annulment of a Commission decision of 25 November 2014 on a scheme for the support of renewable electricity and of energy-intensive users.

Revision German Renewable Energy Sources Act – BMWi Starts Consultation on Draft EEG 2016

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has started the consulting process on the 2016 revision of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act EEG. With this bill the government will use auctioning as the standard system to establish support levels for renewable energy, starting mainly in 2017.

EEG Surcharge Up to 6.354 ct/kWh for 2016 – 7.6% Increase for Core Surcharge

The EEG surcharge for 2016 will increase to 6.354 ct/kWh in 2016, up 3% from 6.17 this year. The grid operators expect to reallocate EUR 22.9 billion of EEG transfer payments, up 5% from last year’s 21.8 EUR billion. If you divide the expected EEG reallocation payments by the German population of 81.2 million, this means about EUR 280 per head.

Contract Value for Second Tender for Ground-mounted PV Installations Decreases to 8.49 ct/kWh

The uniform contract value for the 33 bids with a total capacity of 159.735 kW that were awarded contracts in the second German tender for financial support pursuant to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG 2014) is 8.49 ct/kW, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) announced. In the first tender, where bids were binding, the average contract value was 9.17 ct/kWh.

New PV Capacity in July 2015 Rises to 159.780 MWp – Total PV Capacity Promoted by EEG Amouts to 39 GWp

pIn July 2015 new PV capacity in the amount of 159.780 MWp was installed, bringing solar capacity eligible for support under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) to a total of 39,009 MWp by the end of the month, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) reported.

Second German PV Auction: 33 Bids with Total Capacity of 160 MW Awarded

In the second German tender concerning financial support pursuant to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG 2014) for 150 MW of freestanding PV capacity, 33 bids with a total capacity of 159.735 kW were selected by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). The exact financial support is yet unclear as a uniform pricing method applies.
