German Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks on Paris 2015, Renewables and Nuclear Decommissioning Costs

The keynote speech of the German Minister of the Environment, Barbara Hendricks, at the Handelsblatt Annual Energy Conference focused on Germany’s perspective and expectation for the Climate Conference 2015 in Paris. She stressed the importance to agree on a follow-up agreement of the Kyoto Protocol. The fact that the USA and China have reached an agreement very much increases the chances for a compromise. However, she noted that it will be very challenges and requires the will to compromise from all parties to reach a global accord.

UN Climate Change Conference Marathon in Lima Ends with Further Preparatory Steps for Paris Meeting 2015

The UN Climate Change Conference in Lima held over the last two weeks in Lima, Peru, ended on Sunday, two days later than scheduled. It took preparatory steps for a global environmental agreement aimed at limiting global warming to two degrees Celsius over pre-industrial levels to be concluded in Paris at the end of next year and due to take effect 2020.

German and French Energy Experts Intensify Talks About Security of Electricity Supply in Europe and Future Electricity Market Design

Last week leading energy experts from Germany and France met for talks on the security of supply in Europe and a future electricity market design in view of the changing energy landscape in both countries and the growing amount of renewable energy sources. The conference that was held in Berlin was organised by the German Energy Agency (dena), the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry (BDEW) and the French Energy Association UFE (Union Française de l’Électricité).
