BNetzA Publishes First YouTube Video on Conference Regarding Environmental Aspects of Grid Expansion

The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has uploaded its first youtube video on the so-called Umweltdialog Conference (Environmental Dialogue Conference) held on 22 and 23 April 2013 in Hanover. The aim of the conference was to inform the public about the challenges of grid expansion in Germany and the impact on human beings and the environment.

Interested parties were invited to learn about the ecological impact of overhead extra-high voltage power lines as well as underground cables and discuss the possible consequences of grid expansion for humans, the biological diversity and the cultural and biological landscape with experts from the business world, science and administrations.

The results will influence BNetzA’s work, the agency said. Its president Jochen Homann pointed out the importance of informing the public in a transparent way about grid expansion. Reaching public acceptance for grid expansion needed to accommodate Germany’s growing amount of renewable energy supply is indeed very important to reduce permitting times for new power lines. Regarding the efforts to speed up grid expansion by passing a law on the “Federal Requirement Plan for Transmission Networks”, please see here.
