Tennet and 50Hertz Agree to Cooperate More Closely with Offshore Wind Park Developers

The transmission system operators responsible for the North and Baltic Sea, Tennet TSO GmbH and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, have agreed on a closer cooperation with the working group of  offshore wind park developers (AG Betreiber) so as to promote efficiency.

Until autumn three project groups shall draft proposals for

  • Steadier offshore growth (Verstetigung des Offshore-Ausbaus);
  • An efficient use of the existing grid connection capacities;
  • Cost reduction potential with regard to the expansion of offshore wind power plants and their connection to the grids.

Offshore wind power was an important cornerstone of the German energy policy shift towards a renewable energy supply, the TSOs point out. Approximately 3 GW were currently under construction and would be fully installed by the end of 2015, they say, adding that according to the offshore grid development plan, offshore wind power plants with a capacity of up to 14 GW were to be developed and connected until 2023.
