Bridging the Gap – A Nuclear or Conventional Bridge to More Renewable Energy?

On 9 June 2010 the German American Lawyers’ Association (DAJV) and the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) will host presentations and a panel discussion about “Bridging the gap – A nuclear or conventional bridge to more renewable energy?”

The coalition agreement between the ruling CDU, CSU and FDP coalition calls nuclear energy a bridge technology that is needed until it can reliably be replaced by renewables. The coalition is currently discussing to extend the life span of the German nuclear power plants in order to achieve its climate targets while ensuring affordable energy prices and gaining greater independence from foreign energy suppliers. The role of nuclear as well as conventional energy on the way to developing a low carbon economy is also discussed in the USA and other countries. The event will give an overview on German and international aspects of the current discussion.
