Mediation Committee Compromise over German Solar Feed-in Tariff Reduction

The Mediation Committee (Vermittlungsausschuss) reportedly reached a compromise to reduce the German solar feed-in tariffs.

Spiegel Online reports that the reduction shall be spread out over July and October. The new scheme shall be:

  • Installations attached to or on top of buildings: minus 16% in total, split into minus 13% for installations starting operation for the first time from 1 July 2010, and minus an additional 3% starting 1 October 2010.
  • Other installations (in particular freestanding facilities): minus 15% in total, split into minus 12% for installations starting operation for the first time from 1 July 2010, and minus an additional 3% starting 1 October 2010.
  • Other facilities on conversion areas from economic, traffic, residential or military use and areas that had already been sealed when the decision to set up or change a building plan was made: minus 11% in total, split into minus 8% for installations starting operation for the first time from 1 July 2010, and minus an additional 3% starting 1 October 2010.

The compromise shall be decided upon at the end of this week, with the Bundestag apparently discussing it on Thursday, 8 July, and the Bundesrat on Friday, 9 July 2010.
