More Than 3 GW of Newly Installed German PV Capacity in First Six Months of 2010

The Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) expects German additional installed photovoltaic capacity to exceed 3 GW in the first six months of 2010. Between January and June, Bundesnetzagentur received about 135,000 notices of new systems. More than 50,000 arrived in June alone.

Due to the mid-term reduction of solar feed-in tariffs as of 1 July 2010, there was a great rush to connect new solar power systems by 30 June. Newly installed capacity in the first months was about 1.7 GW. The Federal Network Agency has not yet fully evaluated the notices submitted in June, but expects new capacity from June to reach almost the level of the first five months.

At the end of 2009, installed capacity for electricity generation from photovoltaics reached 9.8 GW. Newly installed capacity in 2009 was 3.8 GW. In 2009, the Federal Network Agency received about 160,000 notices for new PV systems.
