Energy Turnaround Schedule

Further details of the legislative schedule for Germany’s post-Fukushima energy turnaround are emerging. As reported by different newspapers and magazines,  the Federal Cabinet is planning to decide about its energy package on 6 June 2011. The energy package shall contain major amendments of 7 statutes and 1 ordinance. If everything goes according to plan, the Federal Council (Bundesrat) shall pass its final vote on the amendments on 8 July 2011 during its last ordinary session before the summer recess.

The current schedule appears to be as follows:

  • 16 May 2011: Report Reactor Safety Commssion
  • 28 May 2011: Last meeting of the Ethics Commission
  • 30 May 2011: Ethics Commission submits report
  • 3 June 2011: Meeting of parliamentary groups/experts on nuclear phase-out
  • 6 June 2011: Decision Federal Cabinet on energy turnaround legislative package, subsequently meetings of parliamentary groups
  • 9 June 2011: First reading Federal Parliament (Bundestag) of the necessary legislative amendments for energy turnaround package
  • 15 June 2011: End of the 3-month nuclear power moratorium
  • 30 June 2011: Second and third parliamentary reading of statutory amendments and vote in parliament.
  • 8 July 2011: Vote in the Federal Council (Bundesrat)
