EVPG Law Transposing Ecodesign Directive 2009 Entered into Force

The Energy Consumption Relevant Products Act (EVPG), an amendment of the Energy Using Products Act (EBPG), has entered into force. The EVPG transposes the Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC into German law.

The Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC contains a framework for setting ecodesign requirements for energy related products with the aim of increasing energy efficiency. It replaced Directive 2009/32/EC, which only stipulated requirements for products using energy. The recast directive extended the scope to all products that have an impact on energy consumption, whether directly or indirectly, and can therefore contribute to energy saving. The German EVPG reflects the wider scope of the Ecodesign Directive and amends provisions regarding market monitoring and accreditation in order to comply with Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008 setting out the requirements for accreditation and market surveillance relating to the marketing of products.
