Minister Wanka: Energy Research Needs to be Coordinated to Make Energy Transition Happen

The German energy transition (Energiewende) towards a renewable energy supply can only work if the various research activities and results were brought together, Federal Minister of Education and Research, Johanna Wanka, told the newspaper Handelsblatt. She announced to gear energy research fully towards the Energiewende, saying Nationale Forschungsplattform Energiewende, a forum that pools research activities on the Energiewende, would develop an agenda over the course of the year.

New Forum to Pool Energy Research Activities in Germany

Federal Minister of Education and Research Johanna Wanka and representatives of German scientific institutions presented a new forum (Nationale Forschungsplattform Energiewende) that intends to pool the research activities for the German Energiewende, the transition away from a nuclear and conventional power based energy supply to a (mostly) renewable energy supply.

Joint Ministry Support Programme for Research into Modern Electricity Grids with National and International Focus

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) launched a new support programme worth EUR 150 million for research on modern, so-called future-proof, electricity grids.
