Bundestag Approves CCS Bill

With the votes of the ruling Conservative/Liberal government, the Bundestag (German Parliament) approved the controversial CCS bill, thus transposing Directive 2009/31/EC on the geological storage of carbon dioxide to the extent that CCS demonstration projects can be carried out until 2017.

Greenpeace Publishes Map with Potential German CCS Storage Sites

In connection with the upcoming German carbon capture and storage (CCS) law, Greenpeace has published a map of 408 potential German CCS storage sites. The publication came after some legal wrangling about whether information provided under the Environmental Information Act (UIG) can be published by the recipient.

Mining Authority Approves General Operation Plan for Vattenfall CCS Exploration Project

Siemens Reports Breakthrough in CCS Technology

Siemens AG reported that it attained a CO2 capture efficiency of over 90 percent with practically zero solvent emissions. The new post-combustion capture process was reportedly tested for more than 3,000 hours in a pilot facility at the Staudinger power plant operated by E.ON AG.

The Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has reportedly started the inter-ministerial coordination process for the German Carbon Capture and Storage Act. The government shall decide about the introduction of the draft bill at the beginning of September, writes Handelsblatt.
