BDEW and AGFW Call CHP Indispensable for Climate Goals – Changes Needed for Legal Framework

Combined heat and power is  essential for reaching Germany’s energy policy goals, the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry (BDEW) and AGFW, the German Heat & Power Association, said when presenting a new study on CHP. To better tap the potential of CHP, they demanded changes of the legal framework.

Bundesrat Clears Amendment of Combined Heat and Power Act

The Federal Council (Bundesrat) did not object to the amendment of the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG), which the Bundestag recently approved. Hence the amended Act can enter into force the day after the promulgation of the amendment in the Federal Gazette.

Parliament Adopts Amendment of Combined Heat and Power Act

With the votes of the ruling Conservative/Liberal coalition, the German Bundestag (Parliament) adopted an amendment of the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG – ref. no. 17/8801 as amended by the Economics Committee, ref. no. 17/9617). The bill aims to increase the share of combined heat and power in the German energy mix from roughly 15% to date to 25% by 2020.

First Parliamentary Readings of EEG Amendment Cutting Solar Feed-in Tariffs and Amendment of KWKG

The first reading in the Bundestag (German Parliament) of the amendment the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG) will take place tomorrow, 8 March 2011. The first reading of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) cutting solar feed-in tariffs is scheduled for 9 March 2011.
