New RVR Decision Brings E.ON a Step Closer to Building the Coal-fired Datteln 4 Power Plant

The decision by the regional association for the Ruhr valley area (Regionalverband Ruhr – RVR) to initiate proceedings with the state planning authority to obtain permission to deviate from the state planning objectives brings E.ON a step closer to continuing construction on its 1100 MW coal-fired power plant in Datteln (Datteln 4).

German Rail CEO Warns of Cancellations If Datteln Power Plant Is Shut Down in December

In an interview with Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) Deutsche Bahn CEO Rüdiger Grube called on the state of North Rhine Westphalia to decide quickly about postponing the shutdown of the Datteln power plant that provides 75% of the 16.7 Hz railway power. Up to 30% of the train services might have to be cancelled on cold days should Datteln go offline in December, he said.

OVG Münster: Operating Licenses of E.ON’s Shamrock and Datteln Coal-fired Power Plants Expire at End of 2012

E.ON AG could not retract its declarations to close its power plant units 1 to 3 in Datteln and the Shamrock power plant in Herne, hence the permits expire at the end of 2012.  That is what the Higher Administrative Court of Münster (OVG Münster) held in two recent rulings.

RVR Decision in Favour of E.ON’s Datteln Coal-fired Power Plant Project

E.ON’s construction project of a 1100 MW coal-fired power plant in Datteln (Datteln 4) has cleared another hurdle. Construction had to stop partially after the Higher Administrative Court in Münster (OVG Münster) had declared the zoning plan for the respective area void. Now the regional association for the Ruhr valley area (Regionalverband Ruhr) decided in favour of  continuing a regional planning procedure amendment (Regionalplanänderungsverfahren).

New Regional Planning Process for Datteln Power Plant Region Started

The regional association for the Ruhr valley area (Regionalverband Ruhr) has started a new regional planning procedure for the region including the construction site of E.ON AG’s coal-fired power plant in Datteln.

OVG Münster Dismisses Action Against High Voltage Line Connecting Datteln Power Plant

The 11th Senate of the Higher Administrative Court of Münster (OVG Münster) dismissed the action brought by BUND against a high voltage line intended to connect E.ON’s building project for a coal-fired power plant in Datteln to the grid.

New E.ON CEO Teyssen Supports Nuclear Power Extension and Datteln Project

E.ON AG’s new CEO Johannes Teyssen continued on the course of  his predecessor Wulf Bernotat with respect to nuclear and coal. He supported the extension of the life-span of German nuclear power plants as well as E.ON’s coal-fired power plant project in Datteln at the annual shareholder meeting. E.ON Suffers Setback in Legal Dispute Over Coal-fired Power Plant in Datteln

The Federal Administrative Court (Bundesverwaltungsgericht – BVerwG) dismissed E.ON AG’s complaint against the denial of leave to appeal against a ruling of 3 September 2009 by the Higher Adminstrative Court in Münster (Oberverwaltungsgericht Münster – OVG) in which the OVG revoked the zoning plan (Bebauungsplan) for an area in Datteln on which E.ON wants to build a new hard coal-fired 1050 MW power plant, due to start operations in 2011.
