BMU: Almost Half of the Renewable Energy Marketed Directly

More and more producers of renewable energy are selling the electricity directly, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) informed. According to latest data from the transmission system operators (TSOs), almost half of the electricity from renewable sources has been traded entirely via the electricity exchange, and was therefore subject to competition in the wholesale market, BMU said. A year and a half after the EEG amendment (of 2012) and the introduction of the market premium, and only six months after the corresponding management premium ordinance entered into force, considerable progress had been made, the ministry stated.

Government Estimates on Market and Management Premium for 2012

According to estimates, costs for the management premium pursuant to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), amounted to less than EUR 400 million in 2012, the government said in an answer to a Major Interpellation (Große Anfrage) of the Social Democrats (SPD). The management premium is an element of the market premium that was introduced with an EEG amendment in 2012 to incentivise direct marketing as an alternative for renewable energy plant operators to claiming fixed feed-in tariffs.

Ordinance Cutting Management Premium Pursuant to Renewable Energy Sources Act Promulgated

The Ordinance that cuts the management premium (Managementprämienverordnung – MaPrV) pursuant to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) for  solar and wind power as of 1 January 2013 has been promulgated in the Federal Law Gazette.

Bundestag Environment Committee Passes Ordinance Cutting Management Premium for Wind and Solar Power

The Environment Committee of the German Bundestag (Parliament) followed a government decision of late August and approved an ordinance that cuts the management premium pursuant the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) for  solar and wind power as of 1 January 2013.

Draft Bill for Reduction of the Management Premium published by BMU

On 20 July 2012, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (Bundesumweltministerium, BMU) published a draft „Ordinance regarding the amount of management premium for electricity from wind energy and solar energy”. This draft contains a reduction of management premium for wind (onshore and offshore) and solar energy.
