Energy Ministry Presents Revised Renewable Energy Incentive Programme for the Heating Market (MAP) to Increase CO2 Savings

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) has presented the revised Renewable Energy Incentive Programme for the Heating Market (MAP) in an aim to boost the share of renewables in the heating and cooling sector. The programme that provides a total amount of support of EUR 300 million annually will enter into force on 1 April 2015.

Improved Funding Under Renewable Energy Incentive Programme as of Mid-August

Revised Renewable Energy Incentive Programme

The Federal Ministry for the Environment announced improved funding conditions under the Renewable Energy Incentive Programme (Marktanreizprogramm für erneuerbare Energien – MAP) for 2011. As BMU State Secretary Ursula Heinen-Esser pointed out, additional progress in  the area of heating and cooling based on renewable energy was necessary to reach the environmental targets defined by the government’s Energy Concept, in particular with regard to energy efficiency.

Bundestag Lifts Budget Freeze for Renewable Energy Incentive Programme

The Budget Committee of the Bundestag (German Parliament) decided to lift the budget freeze for the incentive program for renewable energy (Marktanreizprogramm – MAP) with immediate effect. Hence, funds in the amount of EUR 115 million are again available for promoting renewable energy in the heat market.

Federal Council Asks Parliament to Lift Budget Freeze Affecting Renewables

The Federal Council (Bundesrat), the legislative body that represents the sixteen Länder (Federal States) on the federal level, passed a motion on 4 June appealing to the Federal Parliament (Bundestag) to lift a budget freeze on the incentive program for renewable energy (Marktanreizprogramm – MAP) and the programs of the National Climate Protection Initiative.
