Monopolies Commission Special Report Calls Again for Quota Model Support Scheme for Renewables

The Monopolies Commission has presented its fourth report on the energy markets, focussing mainly on the implementation of the German energy transition (Energiewende). In view of the many efficiency deficits that the report sees, the Monopolies Commission recommends a more market-oriented energy policy. For the promotion of renewable energy, the report proposes switching from the current system of fixed feed-in tariffs to a quota scheme modeled on the Swedish system.

2011 Monopolies Commission Report on Competition in Gas and Electricity Markets

The Monopolies Commission (Monopolkommission) has presented its third report on the energy markets, entitled “Energy 2011: Development of Competition with Light and Shade” (“Energie 2011: Wettbewerbsentwicklung mit Licht und Schatten”). It calls for a competition-oriented energy policy and expressly demands changes concerning the promotion of renewable energy sources.

Chairman of Monopolies Commission Calls for Power Trading Market Surveillance Body

In an interview with Rheinische Post, Prof. Justus Haucap, Chairman of the Monopolies Commission, called for a special market surveillance body (Marktüberwachungsstelle) for power trading. The body should investigate possible market abuse and could be attached to the Federal Cartel Office.
