BDEW 2015 Power Plant New Build List – 53% of Projects Uncertain

BDEW has published its 2015 list of German new build power plants. 53% of the power plants projects with a net capacity of 20 MW or more and high availability (conventional and offshore power plants) are uncertain, the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry (BDEW) said, when presenting its annual update for the so-called BDEW Kraftwerksliste. If the energy turnaround and the transition to renewable energies as the main pillar of the energy supply was to succeed, reliable back-up by new efficient and climate-friendly (highly available) power plants was needed, Hildegard Müller, chairwoman of the energy trade association BDEW, stressed.

Federal Network Agency Updates Information on Power Plant Capacity and Planned Plant Closures

An updated list by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) shows that total power plant capacity amounted to 192.3 GW on 16 July 2014. According to an update of BNetzA’s list of planned power plant closures, 7,900 MW had been officially notified for closure on 23 July 2014. In addition to the formal notifications, BNetzA has information on plans for further plant closures. According to Rheinische Post (RP), BNetzA knows of planned shutdowns of power plants with a total capacity of 13 GW. BNetzA information dating 18 July 2014 speak of 11,521 MW.

New Information by BDEW and BNetzA on Expected German Power Generation Capacity Developments

The latest update of the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry’s (BDEW) list of power plant projects planned until 2020 (or without date for commissioning) comprising plants with a high availability (conventional and offshore plants) mentions increasing investor uncertainty and reluctance, with an exception in the offshore sector. On 2 April 2014 the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) also presented an update of its list of existing power plants and gave new information on prospective construction and decommissioning.

Latest Information by BDEW and BNetzA on Power Plant New Build Show Hesitation

On the occasion of the Hanover trade fair, the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry (BDEW) published an updated list of power plant projects in various project stages. Although the list contained 38 GW of new build, the commissioning dates for almost a third of the plants were uncertain, BDEW said, blaming market conditions. On 27 March 2013 the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) also presented an update of its list of existing power plants and gave new information on prospective construction and decommissioning.

BNetzA Update of German Power Plant Capacity, New Build and Decommissioning Announcements

The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has made an updated list available on the internet showing German power plant capacity as of 12 September 2012.  In addition, BNetzA published a table listing power plants under construction and plants which the operators intend to close down.
