Federal Minister for the Environment and Nuclear Safety Dr. Barbara Hendricks reappointed the Chairman of the Reactor Safety Commission (RSK) Rudolf Wieland and the Vice Chairman Richard Donderer for another year and appointed four new members to RSK. RSK Publishes Safety Review Report for German Nuclear Plants

The Reactor Safety Commission (RSK) and the Federal Minister for the Environment Norbert Röttgen have presented the results of RSK’s safety checks of all 17 German nuclear power plants.  The 116 page report does not contain a specific recommendation whether or not to close down for good the seven oldest nuclear power plants or the Krümmel nuclear power plant near Hamburg. Execept for Krümmel, these plants have been temporarily shut down in the wake of the moratorium.

Energy Turnaround Schedule

Further details of the legislative schedule for Germany’s post-Fukushima energy turnaround are emerging. As reported by different newspapers and magazines,  the Federal Cabinet is planning to decide about its energy package on 6 June 2011. The energy package shall contain major amendments of 7 statutes and 1 ordinance. If everything goes according to plan, the Federal Council (Bundesrat) shall pass its final vote on the amendments on 8 July 2011 during its last ordinary session before the summer recess.
