With 60,000 new renewable power plants connected to the grids of its distribution network operators in 2010, Essen-based utility RWE AG, reported a 50% increase year-on-year.

E.ON and RWE Blame Energy Turnaround for Weaker Q2 Performance

In view of a first-time loss that E.ON AG had to announce for Q2 2011, the company said it would possibly cut 9,000 to 11,000 jobs to curb costs, citing the energy turnaround as the main reason for the poor results. RWE also said the accelerated nuclear phase-out led to its weaker Q2 performance. Both companies revised their forecasts downward.

RWE, E.ON and WindMW Present Plans for Joint Maintenance and Operation Base for Offshore Wind Farm Projects

RWE  AG, E.ON AG and WindMW GmbH teamed up to cut the high operating and maintenance costs of their offshore wind farm projects in the North Sea. The companies presented plans for the construction of a service and operating station in the southern port of Helgoland. To this end, a total of three service buildings with workshops and warehouses shall be erected on a site of some 10,000 square metres, creating up to 150 jobs.

RWE AG Sells 74.9% Stake in Transmission System Operator Amprion

RWE AG has reached agreement on the sale of a 74.9 % stake in its transmission systems operator Amprion GmbH to a consortium of financial investors, RWE announced in a press release yesterday.

German Cartel Office Clears Evonik Steag Acquisition

The German Cartel Office has cleared the sale of a 51% stake in the Essen-based Evonik Steag GmbH to a holding company of seven municipal utilities located in North Rhine-Westphalia (Kommunale Beteiligungsgesellschaft GmbH). The Office also stopped antitrust proceedings against Evonik Industries AG and RWE AG relating to electricity contract clauses suspected to restrict competition.
